Many times, we hear here in OCM the saying "This is the End of an Era!". But none of those was truly an Era like this one!
On day 26 of the current Season (S58 for future readers), Yuri SuperTeam closed their Sprint Department. An Era that started with Abbot Heinritz back in Season 9 (Day 65). An Era of almost 49 Seasons (4371 days - almost 12 years). An Era of great success! Let's go through our history books to find out more:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abbot Heinritz : S9 - S14
Our first sprint captain! Took us up to Zyte Division in just 1 season and was the foundations on what we had to come!
Palmàres:
Grasse - Toulon – 2nd (S10)
Volta ao Porto SC – 2nd (S11)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patya Gordeyeva : S11 – S21 and S33 – S39
Speaking of Yuri SuperTeam should always be to speak about Patya and his Legacy! Patya was our first super captain, Patya was our inspiration, Patya was our God! The first self-trained and scouted rider stays always in the heart of his manager, and the results he brought home help that way!
Palmarès:
Nederlandse Tour YC – 2nd (S12) + 1st (S13)
Nederlandse Tour GC – 3rd (S12) + 2nd (S13)
Volta ao Porto YC – 2nd (S13)
Essex Tour GC – 1st (S14)
Helsinki GP – 1st (S14) + 1st (S15)
Norwich-London – 3rd (S17)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ramiro Carrilho : S14 – S21
With the sprint team starting to get shaped, Ramiro was one of the biggest players from it! He didn’t have a lot of chances to lead the team, but when he did, he was good!
Palmarès:
Perm Tour SC – 3rd (S15)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guilherme Rios : S19 – S25
With Patya’s reign close to its end, the search of a new captain was the main topic inside YST. Thankfully we found Guilherme! Coming from team Torreira, Guilherme was used to race on the top level and quickly helped the team!
Palmarès:
Vejle-København – 1st (S21)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bernardo Tavares : S20 – S25
Bernardo might not have much to show, but he was a very important pillar on our sprint train!
Palmarès:
N/A
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anton Ugolnikov : S21 – S22
With Patya moving to johny2, YST was in need to find a captain to keep things going. And why not to keep on with a Russian! Anton’s period wasn’t big, but important on the transition after Patya and the things he achieved are still difficult to match!
Palmarès:
Germany Tour SC – 3rd (S21) + 2nd (S22)
Helsinki GP – 1st (S22)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gert Sijmonds : S21 – S25
Seasons 21 and 22 will be remembered in the history books for the clash between Gert and Anton! With Patya’s gone, Anton thought he would be the team’s protegee until Gert arrived. His easy-going approach to racing wasn’t easy for Anton to take (probably the reason Anton forced his way out). Gert’s Seasons 22 to 24 were probably the strongest any rider ever had in YST. 3rd, 4th and 3rd in the OCM ranks is difficult to beat.
Palmarès:
Vuelta de los Castillos SC – 3rd (S22) + 3rd (S23)
Norwich-London – 2nd (S23)
Helsinki GP – 2nd (S23)
Essex Tour GC – 3rd (S24)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Julius Maaskant : S22 – S26
Julius is yet another self-trained sprinter from YST. Just like Anton, he joined the team on a transition’s period and due to the influx of money and talent, he never really had many opportunities to shine.
Palmarès:
Tour de Gummerup – 1st (S26)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Philbert Seaman : S22 – S24
Just like Julius, Philbert came to the team from CK Hymer untrained and developed his skills in-house. Unfortunately, he wasn’t as lucky and left the team pretty quickly without showing his true potential.
Palmarès:
Haugesund Rundtur – 3rd (S24)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jeffrey Clement : S23 – S24
Another very important LO at the time. Looking back, what a strong team we had!
Palmarès:
Essex Tour Stage 3 – 1st (S23)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lúcio Águeda : S24 – S26
Lúcio might be the rider with the most unfair short time in our team. Great potential, self-trained, there was no clear reason to sell him. Still, with Tadaki arriving at the team during Season 25, Lúcio made some pressure to leave and was replaced by one hell of a TTer!
Palmarès:
Valladolid - León – 2nd (S25)
Hermanus-Cape Town – 3rd (S25)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tadaki Ko : S25 – S33
With Gert leaving the Team, another superstar had to step in. And what a Star! Tadaki is by far the most successful rider to wear the YST colors. Points-wise, he is currently the 18th best ever cyclist in OCM! Is there anything else that needs to be said?
Palmarès:
Helsinki GP – 3rd (S25) + 3rd (S28) + 2nd (S29)
Norwich-London – 1st (S26)
Nederlandse Tour GC – 2nd (S26)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Casper Snoots : S27 – S34
Casper might not be great nor worth mentioning, but not only was a great LO, but also a rider who could do a lot with not much.
Palmarès:
Ruoen - Paris – 2nd (S27)
Paris GP – 2nd (S27)
Jerusalem Midnight Ride – 1st (S30)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Øystein Ottesen : S29 – S33
With Tadaki Ko on board, is easy to forget everyone else. But powerhouse Øystein made sure he wouldn’t be forgotten! Such a super talent couldn’t just stay in the shadow on Mr. Ko and so Øystein made a name of himself by being the first YST rider to win the Nederlandse Tour! A feat that shall never be forgotten!
Palmarès:
Helsinki GP – 1st (S30)
Nederlandse Tour GC – 1st (S32)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perceval Lasalle : S29 – S34 and S35 – S40
Perceval was one of the greats! With Ko and Ottesen on board, you could only be at your best to be able to shine! And so did Perceval! The biggest hilly sprinter our team ever had completed his training at our team and by doing so had a lot of success, great rider!
Palmarès:
Grasse - Toulon – 1st (S30)
Vejle-København – 1st (S32)
Mito - Tokyo – 2nd (S32)
Nederlandse Tour GC – 3rd (S35)
Vuelta de los Castillos SC – 3rd (S35) + 2nd (S36)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yonnas Lelisa : S31 – S32
Another rider with a short but effective presence at our team, Yonnas was a beautiful SARS that helped the team move forward!
Palmarès:
Volta ao Porto SC – 2nd (S32)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frantz Katzenschlager : S33 – S38
Simple pure sprinter with an edge on the flat, Frantz was the perfect LO, but also the perfect captain! On this team of stars, he too had his chances, and boy he took them!
Palmarès:
Helsinki GP – 2nd (S35)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Qasim Kamal : S33 – S38
Qasim was in YST the exact same time as Frantz, but instead of being a simple LO, he was hired as a captain. With Ottesen leaving the team and Ko close from retirement, it was in his hands that the sprint team from YST was left. And guys, yes, he was successful!
Palmarès:
Volta ao Porto SC – 1st (S34)
Vejle-København – 1st (S34)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kai Jonkman : S33 – S38
Looking back, it’s amazing how many great SP-TQ riders we had! Kai is one of them! Not the super leader we needed, but the perfect LO we wanted! Kai might not have won much, but he was still a vital part of YST!
Palmarès:
N/A
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tomas Swin : S34 – S35
Just go check his stats! What on earth was I thinking? How can someone let this guy go? I can’t remember my reasons guys!
Palmarès:
N/A
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yevstigney Zarubin : S34 – S38
From Russia with love, Yevstigney was expected to bring the memories of Patya back and therefore was trained at our training fields. He became good, but not Patya himself! Still, he won’t be forgotten!
Palmarès:
Norwich-London – 2nd (S36)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coby Witherspoon : S34 – S37 and S39 - S43
Initially bought just for his Wildcard and good chances on the Nederlandse Tour, Coby was a class rider in YST! In the end, he didn’t renew his NL Title, but was close to it!
Palmarès:
Nederlandse Tour GC – 2nd (S34)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oluwasegun Henry : S38 – S45
Oluwasegun is yet another rider from the legacy of great Hilly Sprinters we had on our team. Sold to us half trained, Oluwasegun was a bet we end up winning! With Perceval’s reign close to an end, it was up to him to take his place!
Palmarès:
Helsinki GP Mini – 1st (S39)
Nederlandse Tour GC – 3rd (S41) + 3rd (S42)
Germany Tour SC – 3rd (S44)
Helsinki GP – 2nd (S44)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hafsteinn Sveinlaugursson : S38 – S45
Arriving to the team close from retirement, Hafsteinn wasn’t still on his prime, but pretty much on time to help! Letting such talents retire at your team is always an honor!
Palmarès:
Vuelta de los Castillos SC – 2nd (S40) + 2nd (S42)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hermenegildo Jordão : S42 – S58
The Portuguese Era on the YST department probably started with Jordão. House trained and scouted, Hermenegildo has always been an important piece on our tactic! His place will always be free for him to come back to our team!
Palmarès:
Helsinki GP – 2nd (S49)
Vejle-København – 2nd (S56) + 2nd (S58)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justino Clementino : S43 – S55
Following Hermenegildo came Justino! Another talent trained at home that had his chances once in a while. Problem for both riders might have been the low race tactics knowledge from this manager that harmed their chances on the battlefield. Surely, he deserved more!
Palmarès:
Grand Prix Casablanca – 3rd (S49)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cássio Lisboa : S47 – S58
Another couple of seasons had passed and Cássio joined the team! On the same line of thought from Justino, Cássio became a great pure sprinter who could do a bit of everything. Had mostly LO roles, but also a couple of captaincies and free roles.
Palmarès:
Glasgow - Dundee – 1st (S53)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alípio Almada : S49 – S58
The last great Captain! Alípio was followed still before he was trained by his first team! We helped his team complete his training and advised him on everything. Then, it was impossible not to try to hire him. Unfortunately, he slipped through our fingers and went to Germany. But then, we snapped him! A true Star in Portugal and in our team, Alípio always showed great level and finished his career in YST on a very high! He will be back!
Palmarès:
Volta ao Porto SC – 3rd (S54)
Helsinki GP – 2nd (S54)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gaudêncio Barroqueiro : S50 – S58
Gaudêncio was set to be the future of our team until we decided to close it. He trained to replace Alípio at one point, and now will have his chance to do so at his new team! Wish him all the best!
Palmarès:
Mito - Tokyo – 2nd (S57)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did I forget anyone? Probably did, but I think you guys can get the picture. It’s time to move on to the next chapter and if we get close to this success, we’ll be very proud just like we are to have left our mark on the sprint golden pages from OCM!
We made an internal poll, and this is the favorite YST Line up from our history books:
1. Tadaki Ko
2. Alípio Almada
3. Patya Gordeyeva
4. Øystein Ottesen
5. Gert Sijmonds
6. Perceval Lasalle
Captain’s List though the Seasons:
S9 – S11: Abbot Heinritz
S11 – S21: Patya Gordeyeva
S21 – S22: Anton Ugolnikov and Gert Sijmonds
S22 – S25: Gert Sijmonds
S25 – S29: Tadaki Ko
S29 – S33: Tadaki Ko, Øystein Ottesen and Perceval Lasalle
S33 – S38: Perceval Lasalle and Qasim Kamal
S39 – S40: Perceval Lasalle, Oluwasegun Henry and Hafsteinn Sveinlaugursson
S41 – S45: Oluwasegun Henry and Hafsteinn Sveinlaugursson
S45 – S49: Hermenegildo Jordão and Justino Clementino
S50 – S58: Alípio Almada
See you guys around!

Team Manager

It's good to see Snoots getting a mention on this list. Not many better LO2s.
Epic! Brilliant write up.
Some big names in this list. Good luck on new terrains!
Must admit he did better before joining my team hehe :)
For me he won me a lot of points which was my goal for him. And he also won Norwich-London which was a first for me, so that's good enough for me!
Always thought Ko did better than what you list here. But changing directions doesn't have to be bad :) Good luck in your new adventures!
Impressive! Tadaki Ko was indeed a beast I was envious of him back then :)
But now I have the great Almada and Barroqueiro within my ranks!
I will take care of them both as well as their mates. I am confident that Almada will return to you when it is his time to retire :)
In my early days of OCM there was a sprinter named Tadaki Ko who inspired, hoping to get a rider like that once. Good luck with starting a new era!
Indeed, end of an era. May this be for more success in the other departments!
It's fixed indeed! A bit complicated to do this Press Release's thing. I need to post it before cross-checking it. Is now fixed and I included a List of the Captains through the Seasons :)
Oh both comments about Almadi and Tadaki seem to have be a matter of riderids!
Great summary and nice overview of the most important results. Funny to see even Almada not make your alltime lineup!
And isn't this national diversity in the history of YST not much more interesting than your current domestic bias ;)
You might want to look in the riderid of Tadaki btw
